Monarch member SPOTLIGHT: SEDALIA, MISSOURI
SEDALIA, MISSOURI became a Monarch City USA member in 2020. Vermont Park, located within the city, was registered as a Monarch Park that same year. There are two registered waystations at this location that were planted with milkweed for monarchs. Several other greenspaces throughout the city also incorporate pollinator friendly, drought tolerant, native plants, according to Shawna Y., Vermont Park employee and MC USA member contact.
As part of their annual monarch festival, the City of Sedalia works with the Cole Camp Friends of the Monarch Group. Each year, live monarchs are displayed at the festival in the various life cycle stages that children really enjoy. The group also brings various educational materials, props, and knowledge to share with the public.
